Thor 2011

Thor begins with the battle of the Asgardian led by their King  Odin (Anthony Hopkins). They fought with the  Frost Giants of Jotunheim  but as usual the film will show great effects in their fight scenes. The battle ended when Asgardian found the source of the Frost Giant’s power, the Casket of Ancient Winters. This brought victory in Asgard!

After that King Odin showed his two sons Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston), what there are going to do in the future. Thor has been a very aggressive person since he was a child, but opposite with Loki.

Now in the present, Thor was ready to ascend his father’s throne (he is a very arrogant aggressive man who does not think first but instead he is always looking for war just to prove himself worthy of the throne and a “man”), when the frost giants suddenly tried to retrieve the Casket. Because of this Thor wants to fight, without letting his father know his plan, Thor took his warriors with him and his brother Loki to Jotunheim to fight! They went into Heimdall (Idris Elba), gatekeeper of the Bifröst - the means of traveling between worlds – to allow them passage to Earth.

It looks nice when you see Thor fight, he is amazing here, but not his warriors (friends) , Loki tried to stop him until their father went in and saved them , and brought them back to Asgard.

Thor has been exiled by his father due to this disobedience, without his father’s consent he fought with the enemies which are of course not a reason for Thor to be the king. Thor became mortal and sent to the earth. But King Odin sent the hammer Mjolnir (the source of Thor’s power) as well, and whispered that whoever is worthy can use the hammer.

Meanwhile Thor was sent to in New Mexico,  where astrophysicist Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), her assistant Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) and mentor Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård), find him. And the love story started here as well with Jane.  They are scientists who later lost their evidence of Thor’s existence because of the work of the government, the hammer is under the government’s investigation now to try to take it off from the ground. It is stuck there and was waiting for the person worthy of its power , that would be Thor. It sounds familiar, hehe from King Arthur. Thor learned a lot of things on earth, he became slow tempered, and thinks, and also became a true hero!

The story will show you more about how Thor managed to become a true hero and get back to Asgard to win his throne back as well as resolving the problem with his father and his brother Loki who was revealed as the giant frost leader’s son. Loki was told about this at the present time, and he was angry with Odin about not telling the truth which causes Odin to fall into deep sleep “Odinsleep”.

Loki was innocent before, when Odin found him and Odin thought he can be used to unite the two kingdoms and bring peace to the people, but not, instead he became a big traitor and lied to Thor that Odin was dead.

Thor understands what Loki’s intention was when he got back, and they fought hand in hand. But Loki killed the giant frost leader who was his real father , he wants to destroy the Bifröst  bridge to prove himself worthy as a son of Odin. This started the fight with Thor and Loki. Thor wants the bridge kept open for them to have a chance in transporting to the other world. And Thor wants to go back to earth since he loved Jane and promised to return.

So then Odin woke up and prevented the two brothers from falling into the abyss  due to the bridge destruction.  Loki allows himself to fall, and it is such a heart breaking scene! Thor and Odin still did not want Loki to fall, they treat him as part of the family. But anyway, victory is already in the hands of Thor, but he says he is not worthy to be King , he told Odin that. Thor became humble and learned it while he was mortal. Now on earth, Jane searched a way to open a portal to Asgard. And thus ended the story, which is incomplete for me, as a fairytale girl, I want the movie to show the complete happy ending, but let’s just leave it that way then. The director wants us to imagine the next scene.

You will learn a lot here, the action is terrific and splendid. You will not wish to eat, or move or even go to the rest room. It can surely hook us up. As a Christian my opinion of this movie is great! It is cool, everyone can watch. The destruction may cause bad imagination for the kids, but the entire story is good. No traitors in the family, and becoming unselfish, and would think thru first before going to war or battle is the best thing to do. Being aggressive cannot give you the throne, which means that you are only ready if you can surrender everything and have the humble heart. Isn’t it amazing? The story is almost like Hercules, saving Meg!

I can also say that Natalie Portman role here is not really attractive, she did not have great scenes, or even helped the battle. But at least Thor has a lady to save.

There is also a last part of the movie, which we haven’t completed. But thanks to Wikipedia I got the idea. “In a post-credits scene, Selvig has been taken to a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility, where Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) opens a briefcase and asks him to study a mysterious object, which Fury says may hold untold power. An invisible Loki prompts Selvig to agree, whichSelvig does.”
