Solomon Kane

In a christian perspective, the movie is okay. 3/5 if you as a christian would like to watch this. The effects are stunning, it is just like the effects used on “Lord of the rings”. Although it is very offensive, the blood, the beheading can still be seen on most of the historical movies such as The lord of the rings, King Arthur, Helen of Troy movie. But what I don’t like is the part where there are cannibals, they look like the vampires, or those crazy people in “the resident evil” movie. For kids, this movie is not really good. For adults from 18, yes you can watch this movie. But if you are not sure, and may have nightmares, better not to watch this movie.
If you think about it, this movie is really non christian. But from the movie, you can get some lesson though, you can put it as an adventure. In the world, evil, and demon is everywhere, that is why we need God. Without action we also cannot defeat the evil. Just like what happened to Marcus in this movie, at first Marcus is really bad to his brother Solomon, that’s why he was easily turned into a demon by Malachi. He is on the devil’s side.
Another thing you can get from this movie, is the purity of the Meredith. Even though Meredith’s family died, she was still saved, and was the reason Solomon’s soul was redeemed. Staying pure will always be a good thing. Remember that the demon is everywhere, but GOD is bigger than the Demon!
Please feel free to reply whether you think this is a positive movie, or negative, or neutral. Your comment will be helpful for Christians who wanted to know this movie before watching! God bless.
Movie Synopsis
Solomon Kane is a mercenary of Queen Elizabeth. He fights with the demons. One day Solomon met the devil’s reaper, and was told that his soul is bound for hell. Solomon believes that he is still protected by God, but with his evil doing, realized he should be bound for hell. After a brief duel with the reaper, Solomon cries “I am not yet ready for Hell!” and leaps from the throne room window into the sea. As he falls to safety, the reaper snarls his soul will be the Devil’s.
Solomon finds sanctuary in a monastery in the countryside. However, due to the Abbot’s dreams, Solomon is soon expelled and sent back to his ancestral estates in Devon, where Solomon has not been since his father disowned him. Remembering his childhood, Solomon is the youngest, he had an older brother name Marcus. Marcus has been told to receive all the inheritance of their father, and Solomon was requested by his father to be a priest. Solomon did not want to. One day Marcus had a fight with Solomon in the mountains. Accidentally Marcus fell down the mountains, and Solomon thought Marcus is already dead. Because of that, Solomon was banished.
Back to the Sanctuary, Solomon now needs to go back to his homeland. Along the way, he was ambushed by robbers in the forest, and was left unconscious. The Crowthorns family found him, and helped him – a family of puritans heading west to travel to the New World. But then the family with Solomon was ambushed by the men of Malachi. Most of the family is killed, except Meredith, who is kidnapped, her mother was still alive with his dying father. When Samual, Meredith’s younger brother, is mercilessly slain right before Solomon’s shocked eyes, an enraged Solomon charges into battle, killing several. The head of the family, William Crowthorn, declares as his last words that Solomon’s soul will be redeemed if he rescues Meredith. Solomon, having now re-embraced a life of violence to fight off the attackers, takes a horse, arms himself and sets out in pursuit.
From that, Solomon was eager to find Meredith. When he found some men of Malachi along the way, he killed them all, and one was asked if he found Meredith, he told Solomon that Meredith is already dead. Solomon never believed the evil man, and throws him to the whole with cannibals. But then later on Solomon realizes that Meredith could be dead, and he was so disappointed, seems like life is not worth continuing anymore. Meredith was his last chance for his soul to be redeemed. Solomon went to a place where he drunk, totally discouraged. On that area, his men who fought with him before found him, together with some civilians who are willing to go to battle. Because Solomon is totally disappointed, he disregard these men. Slept in a bed where people of Malachi found him, he was crucified. As they move away, a cart containing Meredith passes behind them. She recognises Kane and calls out. He realises that he still has a chance to save her and pulls himself off the cross. – this part, I can’t barely move on the chair, it is like passion of Christ movie. Those people who doesn’t like bloody movies, don’t watch this part, close your eyes, or else don’t watch the movie if you are not sure. Before Malachi’s remaining men can kill Solomon, they are killed by survivors of the resistance with Solomon’s men when he was a violent mercenary before, then they took Solomon to safety.
Now that Solomon has the chance not to be bound to hell, Solomon was eager to fight back. This time he has the survivors with him, ready for battle. Solomon and the men went back to Solomon’s birthplace to find Meredith. On the old castle, Solomon found his father, who was placed in the dungeon with the other prisoners. His father, explained what happened to Marcus. On the day Solomon accidentally pushed Marcus, Marcus fell down on the mountains. His father was very disappointed with Solomon, and finds a way to restore his eldest son Marcus. He found sorcerer Malachi who can heal Marcus. Malachi- who brought Marcus back to life: however, Marcus was horribly disfigured and left subservient to Malachi, who turned Marcus into his enforcer: the Masked Rider. At his father’s request, Solomon reluctantly shoots him dead and heads to the throne room to confront Malachi.
Meredith was still held captive by Malachi, and was used as a trap for Solomon to enter the dangerous room of Malachi. Kane confronts Malachi. Despite his injury, Solomon pleads with his brother Marcus, but his cries fall on deaf ears since the masked rider is already Malachi’s man, so he grudgingly draws his sword and the two brothers fight to the death. After the battle, Malachi uses the pure blood of Meredith to open the portal of the demon that was sent to take Solomon’s soul. Solomon fought back, and shoot Malachi’s head. This opens backs the portal, and the three souls, (solomon, demon, malachi) was pulled into the portal of Hell. Because Meredith is now safe, redeemed and Malachi is gone, Solomon’s soul was also redeemed as promised by Meredith’s father. Meredith travels to America with her mother, while Solomon, after burying his father and brother, declares that evil exists elsewhere in the world and that he will put an end to it.
