Abiding Traffic Rules

We all know that there are a lot of rules when it comes to highways, streets, and traffics. I had a really bad experience about this.  It is easy if we have the righteous heart to follow it. There is nothing wrong with following the rules on earth, it simply shows our dignity and glorifies the name of the Lord.

Let me tell you one horrible story about our experience on Traffic Rules. It happened in Cebu. I believe we are aware that it is not allowed for three persons to ride in a motorcycle. It was Monday, 7 in the morning and we were waiting for our father to pick us up. He brought with him two other helmets not including the one he is wearing. So we expect that we will all ride on the motorcycle.

I know that we are aware of the rule, but there is a bit of confusion and we are unsure. But still we continue and travel together, the three of us. Imagine our chance to decide on this situation? We have the chance to decide, and we just rejected the law and followed our own instinct which is not correct. We know it inside. So while riding, we stopped on the crossing because of traffic. There we saw a traffic enforcer. Although he is not a police, but we know he is part of the official that takes care of people that are not following the traffic rules.

It was totally one of the most embarrassing moments of our lives. Anyway, we stood there, looking innocent but obviously not. The officer talked to my father, and asked for the license. Then told my father that he will need to pay an amount to the LTO, which is a big hassle. My father decided to just give Php 100 to the officer. The officer said that it is not his decision, it is my fathers. But still he accepted the money then let us go. Me and my sister were very quiet. Because we are in the situation where we were embarrassed, we know inside that we are all aware of it.

You see? When you follow the rules, you are in the right place and confident to speak to the truth. That is why God wanted us to obey, we will never be guilty, we will never be embarrassed and less hassle for our lives. This is one great lesson that I will never forget.

Following the rules shows positive things:

  1. Glorifies the Lord
  2. Dignity
  3. Confidence
  4. Reputation
  5. Freedom

Job 36:11
“If they obey and serve him,
they will spend the rest of their days in prosperity
and their years in contentment.” (NIV)
